Electric fans are available in a variety of shapes for different uses. Table fans, window fans and ceiling fans all have the same basic mechanical configuration -- multiple blades attached to a motor -- but are used to achieve different cooling goals. Many home fans are hardwired into the electrical supply through lead wires; others, such as table fans, are powered through an outlet plug.
The motor is the component that usually fails on an electric fan. A motor is easily accessible and replaceable by unplugging its module body from the electrical wiring and reattaching a new motor. Large-scale electrical wiring procedures are not required for these fan types.
Fan blades are easily replaceable if they become damaged. Typically, screws hold the blades to the fan's mounting hardware. Disconnect electrical power to a fan before dismantling its components.
