How to Fix the Internal Fuse on an Under the Counter Microwave

Microwave ovens operate with an internal glass-type fuse to keep the electrical components from overheating. If your under-the-counter microwave stops working, the problem may be as simple to resolve as replacing a blown fuse. Always match the amperage rating on the old fuse to the new fuse before replacing the part. The fuse is located in a bracket inside the microwave near the connection point with the power cord.

Instructions

    • 1

Unplug the microwave power cord from the wall outlet, which is typically located inside the cabinet above the appliance or immediately below the microwave. If you can't reach the power cord, shut off the electricity at the circuit breaker.

    • 2

Remove the screws on the plate below the microwave. Follow the path of the power cord inside the appliance to the fuse box. The cover snaps off.

    • 3

Take out the old fuse from the U-shaped metal bracket and inspect the glass tube. If the metal wire inside is broken or the glass is discolored, the fuse is burned out.

    • 4

Press a new fuse into the bracket until both ends lock in position on contact. Replace the fuse box cover and snap it securely.

    • 5

Attach the cover to the bottom of the appliance with screws.

    • 6

Plug in the power cord or turn on the electricity at the breaker.
