How to Bypass the Thermal Fuse on an Admiral Dryer

The thermal fuse in an Admiral dryer is a temperature-sensitive switch that shuts off the heating element if it gets too hot. This safety feature can prevent a fire. The fuse is designed to close again when the appliance cools down so you can continue drying clothes. If the Admiral still will not work once it cools off, try bpyassing the fuse to determine if the part is bad. Running a bypass takes only a few minutes.

Instructions

    • 1

Unplug the Admiral power cord from the wall.

    • 2

Unscrew and remove the access plate from the bottom rear of the Admiral, using the screwdriver. Locate the thermal fuse on the metal heater cannister. The fuse is mounted on an oval metal plate.

    • 3

Pull the two wires off the two fuse contacts. The wires slip off with the connectors attached to the ends.

    • 4

Hold the two connectors on the ends of the wires together and wrap loosely with a 2-inch piece of electrician;s tape. Do not wrap too tightly because the tape must come off to reconnect the wires to the fuse. The two wires need to be connected securely enough to make electrical contact.

    • 5

Remove your hands from the back of the Admiral and plug in the power cord.

    • 6

Shut the dryer door firmly and turn the cycle knob to any setting. Press the start button. If the dryer operates normally, the thermal fuse is defective. If the dryer still does not heat up, the electric heating element may be defective.
