Cut off the electricity to the Frigidaire at the circuit breaker. This essential safety precaution is simpler than moving the appliance to access the power cord in the back.
Open and lower the Frigidaire oven door. Locate the screws that hold the surface of the appliance to the upper edge of the door frame.
Remove the screws along the upper door frame, using the screwdriver.
Lift the smooth top by the left and right corners while wearing work gloves to protect your hands from the sharp metal underneath.
Support the top of the oven by placing the wooden dowel between the top of the appliance and the underside of the cooking surface.
Unscrew and remove the screws holding the metal cover over the defective heating coil. Take off the metal cover and place the screws aside for safekeeping.
Pull the two coil terminals out of the wired socket attached to the underside of the Frigidaire smooth top. This disconnects the coil for removal.
Connect the new coil to the wired socket in the same orientation as the old coil.
Place the metal cover over the new coil and secure the cover with the screws.
Remove the support dowel, and lower the top with both hands until the surface is flush with the front of the Frigidaire.
Secure the top with the screws through the upper edge of the door frame. Raise and close the oven door.
Turn on the circuit breaker for the appliance.
