Twist the knob on the supply hose cutoff valve clockwise to suspend water flow to the Whirlpool.
Unplug the power cord from the wall socket behind the appliance. Pull the Whirlpool forward to make room for working around the back panel.
Take off the service panel near the bottom by removing the bolts in the panel with a nut driver. The supply hose passes through this panel to connect with the valve inside the Whirlpool.
Twist the coupler on the end of the supply hose counterclockwise where it connects to the valve. Pull off the hose and place the end in a bucket to catch water.
Remove the bolt in the L-shaped bracket holding the valve to the edge of the appliance cabinet, using the nut driver.
Pull the four wires off the four blade posts on the top of the valve, making a note of which wires connect to which blades, left to right. Now you can remove the valve assembly.
Slide the connector on the end of each wire onto the corresponding blade terminal on the new valve. Connect all four wires.
Attach the new valve to the L-shaped clamp with the bolt and nut driver.
Screw on the coupler at the end of the supply hose to the threaded intake on the new valve by hand, then finish with 1/2-turn clockwise, using the wrench.
Reconnect the back panel to the Whirlpool with the bolts and nut driver.
Plug in the power cord to the outlet.
Turn the knob in the supply-line valve counterclockwise to release water to the repaired appliance.
