How to Replace the Thermostat on an Admiral LNC7764A71 Dryer

The Admiral LNC7764A71 is an electric clothes dryer with a coiled heating element that works with the blower to force warm air into the laundry drum. A thermostat wired to the top of the heater assembly controls the temperature for the various drying cycles available on this model. If the thermostat is defective, the Admiral will either produce heat at one setting or will not heat at all. Replacing this small part takes less than one hour.

Instructions

    • 1

Unplug the Admiral's electric cord from the wall receptacle. Slide the appliance away from the wall to work behind the dryer cabinet.

    • 2

Remove the screw in the round clamp that attaches the corrugated hose to the back of the dryer. Pull off the hose.

    • 3

Remove the screws on the four edges of the dryer's back panel. Wear work gloves to take off the panel to protect your hands from sharp metal edges.

    • 4

Slide off the two electrical wires from the contacts on the thermostat, which is mounted on the top of the heating element near the bottom, inside the dryer. The heating element case has ventilation holes in rows on the side facing the back of the dryer.

    • 5

Remove the two screws on the top of the thermostat. The screws hold the part to the thermal bracket underneath. Now the old part can be removed.

    • 6

Set the new thermostat on top of the bracket. Adjust the part so the holes in the mounting plate line up with the holes in the bracket. Replace the two screws and tighten.

    • 7

Slide the two wires onto the two contacts on the new thermostat.

    • 8

Replace the cover planel and secure it with the screws removed in Step 3.

    • 9

Attach the ventilation hose to the pipe on the Admiral. Tighten the screw in the clamp around the hose.

    • 10

Plug in the Admiral's electric cord and slide the dryer back in position.
