How to Get to a Burner Switch Installed on a Jenn-Air Glass Stove Top in an Island

Jenn-Air glass stove cooktops use switches mounted underneath to control the gas burners. Each switch is wired to a control knob to regulate heat on a different burner. When turned to the ignite position, the switch heats the igniter and opens the gas valve to light the burner. On electric models, the switch activates the heating coil mounted below the glass. These components are accessible on Jenn-Air cooktops in kitchen islands by raising the surface to expose the underside of the appliance. Use work gloves to protect your hands from sharp metal.

Instructions

    • 1

Turn all the Jenn Air surface controls to the "off" position.

    • 2

Open the cabinets on the side of the island to locate and close the gas valve that supplies fuel to the Jenn-Air. The handle on the valve turns clockwise 90 degrees to shut off the gas. If you are working on an elctric Jenn-Air, skip this step.

    • 3

Unplug the power cord from the socket inside the island cabinets. Both electric and gas Jenn-Air models have a power cord.

    • 4

Remove the screws on the bottom of the front edge of the Jenn Air where it attaches to the island. Slide off the lock bar that was held in place by the screws.

    • 5

Push upward on the bottom of the Jenn-Air while wearing work gloves to raise the appliance slightly above the edge of the island at the top.

    • 6

Raise the Jenn-Air to a 45-degree angle above the sland and prop it upright with a metal rod. The switch for each burner is wired to the burner's corresponding control knob on the surface of the cooktop.
