Replacing a GE Profile PGS908 Igniter

The GE Profile PGS908 is a gas range that uses an igniter to activate the flame when you turn on the oven. If your pilot light is lit but the oven is not heating properly, you might need to replace the igniter. Access to the igniter is through the oven’s floor, which requires removing the oven door and floor panel. The replacement of the igniter only takes a few minutes.

Instructions

    • 1

Turn the gas valve that runs to your GE Profile PGS908 range to the “Off” position and then disconnect the power by moving the breaker switch to “Off” in your breaker box.

    • 2

Open the oven door until it reaches the first stop position, which leaves the door about halfway open.

    • 3

Hold the sides of the oven door, lift up until the door releases from the hinges, and then lay the oven door down.

    • 4

Pull out the oven’s storage, or warmer drawer, by sliding it out and then lifting it off the guides.

    • 5

Unscrew the two screws at the back of the oven along the bottom panel and then slide the panels out from the oven.

    • 6

Unscrew the two hex-head screws holding the flame spreader, or bake burner, in place. One screw is near the top back wall of the oven and one screw is positioned along the bottom of the bake burner.

    • 7

Pull the bake burner out from the oven.

    • 8

Unscrew the two hex-head screws that hold the igniter to the bake burner.

    • 9

Slide the new igniter into place and screw it back to the bake burner.

    • 10

Reposition the bake burner inside of the oven and replace the two hex-head screws to their positions along the top and bottom of the bake burner.

    • 11

Reverse the steps to replace the floor panel, storage drawer and oven door.
