How to Install a Circulating Pump on a GE Monogram Ice Maker

The GE Monogram is a stand-alone ice maker commonly used where a steady supply of ice is needed, such as for a wet bar. The Monogram connects to a water supply and operates with a circulating pump to keep water flowing through the machine continuously. This prevents water from freezing in the lines. If the pump breaks, the Monogram will not work properly. Buy a replacement part from GE or an appliance parts dealer and you can install it in less than an hour.

Instructions

    • 1

Unplug the Monogram's power cord from the wall.

    • 2

Twist the knob on the valve clockwise on the water line that connects to the back of the Monogram. This shuts off the flow of water to the ice maker while you replace the pump.

    • 3

Remove the back plate on the Monogram, using a screwdriver to take out the screws. Slide the plate back along the water line out of the way.

    • 4

Loosen the clamp screws on the end of the two hoses where each hose connects to the circulating pump at the top of the ice maker in the back. Pull off the hoses. A small amount of water might spill.

    • 5

Disconnect the two wires that slip onto the circulating pump's electrical contacts. Each wire slides off.

    • 6

Remove the two screws in the metal mounting brackets on the circulating pump. Now you can remove the pump from the Monogram.

    • 7

Set the new pump in the same position as the old part and secure it with screws through the mounting brackets.

    • 8

Attach the two hoses to the two ports on the circulating pump. Tighten the clamp screws to hold the hoses securely.

    • 9

Slide the two wires onto the contacts on the new pump.

    • 10

Fasten the back panel to the Monogram with the screws removed earlier.

    • 11

Unscrew the knob for the water supply valve and plug in the power cord.
