Set up the pressure cleaner for normal operation and connect the pressure gauge to the mount for the trigger wand on the cleaner. The gauge connects in the same way as the trigger wand.
Connect the trigger wand to the other end of the pressure gauge.
Turn on the pressure cleaner normally and wait for the motor to reach idle speed.
Unscrew and remove the nylon cap from the top of the downloader valve. This is an L-shaped component typically mounted on the top or side of the pressure cleaner. The adjustment knob is underneath the nylon cap.
Point the trigger wand in a safe direction and press the trigger lever. Note the pressure reading on the gauge.
Twist the adjusting knob on the downloader clockwise while observing the pressure gauge. The pressure should not be set higher than 90 percent of the pressure cleaner's maximum rating. This is because the pressure will peak briefly when the trigger is released. Over time, these pressure bursts can wear down and damage the pump. For example, if the equipment is rated for a maximum pressure of 4,000 psi (pounds per square inch), then the downloader should not be set higher than 3,600 psi.
