How to Change the Auger Belt on a Toro 826LE

Founded in 1914, the Toro Company is a leading producer of landscape maintenance equipment. The Toro Power Max 826LE is a two-stage snowblower with a 14-inch serrated auger that's designed to toss snow as far as 40 feet. Toro Power Max snowblowers use a belt and pulley system to rotate the auger. A broken Toro snowblower auger belt brings snow elimination to a standstill. Fortunately, you can replace the auger belt to get your snowblower back to doing what it does best.

Instructions

    • 1

Turn off the snowblower engine, and allow it to cool completely. Disconnect the spark plug wires to prevent the engine from accidentally starting during the belt replacement process.

    • 2

Use a flat-head screwdriver to remove the two mounting screws on each of the two auger belt covers. Set aside the removed belt covers and screws.

    • 3

Remove the bolt securing the wire auger belt guide, using an adjustable wrench. Work carefully to avoid bending the somewhat fragile belt guide component.

    • 4

Disconnect the brake assembly spring; use a pair of needle-nose pliers to unhook the spring from the assembly. Remove the two bolts on the side of the brake assembly, and lift the entire assembly out of the snowblower chassis.

    • 5

Unfasten the bolt mounting the pulley to the crankshaft. Hold the hub between the engine pulley and crankshaft to prevent the crankshaft from turning. Remove the existing auger belt from the engine and impeller pulleys.

    • 6

Hook the replacement auger belt onto the engine and impeller pulleys. Replace and tighten the bolt to secure the engine pulley to the crankshaft.
