How to Install a D23361 Compressor Switch

D23361 is the original manufacturer's model number for a pressure switch that mounts on a Sears Craftsman air compressor. The switch connects to a control knob for adjusting the air pressure produced by the equipment. It is also the second most expensive part to replace on the Craftsman compressor, after the motor. If the switch malfunctions or breaks, the air compressor does not work properly. Replacing the part requires only basic tools.

Instructions

    • 1

Unplug the Craftsman power cord from the wall.

    • 2

Take out the screws on the sides of the housing at the top of the compressor to separate the housing into two halves. Pull apart and set aside these parts.

    • 3

Follow the path of the power cord to the pressure switch, which is below the motor on the left as you face the control panel and two pressure gauges.

    • 4

Loosen the screws in the switch to release the Y-clips on the end of the two power cord wires. Make a note of where the wires attach on the switch.

    • 5

Unscrew the two nipples on the sides of the switch to release the air hoses.

    • 6

Take out the mounting screws holding the old switch inside the air compressor cabinet. Remove the old switch.

    • 7

Hold the new part in position and secure it with the mounting screws.

    • 8

Connect the air hoses to the two nipples on the new part and twist the connectors clockwise to secure the hoses.

    • 9

Attach the Y-clips on the power cord wires to the screw terminals on the new switch. Tighten each screw.

    • 10

Slide the two halves of the housing together at the top of the air compressor until they mesh together. Secure them with the screws removed in Step 2.
