Unplug the plunge router from its power source. Lay the router on its back on a flat, stable surface such as a table or counter top. Engage the locking lever, knob or button.
Remove the locking nuts and washer at the top of the height rod. Set the removed pieces aside.
Move the plunge router to the edge of the table and press your body against the base. Disengage the locking lever, knob or button; you should feel the base of the router press back against you. Pull the base off of the router and set it aside.
Grasp the springs at the bottom of the router and slowly pull them from the router body. Bend the springs slightly toward the floor as you pull them out to engage the metal posts inside the springs. Set aside the removed springs and posts.
Place the base on the table or countertop. Thread the height rod through the router housing and reposition the router on the base. Replace the locking nuts and washer at the top of the height rod.
