How to Replace the Condenser Controller in a Frigidaire MFU21M3GW2

The Frigidaire MFU21M3GW2 is an upright electric freezer. Like virtually all refrigeration units, the appliance uses a condenser mounted at the bottom of the cabinet. The condenser cycles on and off with a controller, also known as a relay switch control, in response to the need for cold air. For example, if the freezer temperature rises above the preset level or you lower the setting on the thermostat, the relay switch activates to start the condenser. Replacing this part takes less than an hour.

Instructions

    • 1

Unplug the freezer's power cord from the electrical socket.

    • 2

Remove the two clips, which Frigidaire refers to as support drops, on the left and right sides of the grille at the bottom-front of the freezer. Each support drop slides off. The pair on the left side detach to the left and the pair on the opposite side slide off to the right.

    • 3

Follow the path of the wires from the condenser, which is the large cylinder in the bottom-center below the freezer cabinet, to the controller switch on the left.

    • 4

Remove the screws in the controller and pull the part off the mounting spindle.

    • 5

Loosen the screws in the old controller to detach the overload and starter wires. Note the position of each wire on the controller before removal.

    • 6

Attach the two wires to their corresponding terminals on the new controller and tighten the screws.

    • 7

Slide the new part on the mounting spindle and secure it with screws.

    • 8

Replace the grille with the two support drops on each side and fasten it to the bottom-front of the freezer.

    • 9

Plug in the power cord and adjust the thermostat to the desired temperature.
