On a Maytag washing machine, the anti-siphon valve is a plastic device located on the top of the drain hose where it connects to the washer in the back. The valve is on the right side on the rear of the appliance. However, all Maytag washers do not have an anti-siphon valve.
The anti-siphon valve may be leaking for a number of reasons. Since most anti-siphon valves are plastic, this less durable material is easily cracked and damaged. However, like all washing machine components, it is subject to wear and tear and may have simply worn out. A leak from the anti-siphon valve will show up as water on the floor at the rear of the washing machine on the right side.
Anti-siphon valve replacement parts are relatively inexpensive. A basic “siphon break,” also known as a siphon break assembly, includes a plastic valve with a metallic gasket and clamp. Depending on the model of your Maytag washer and the anti-siphon valve's type and configuration, the price for the valve assembly ranges from $16 to $23. Since some Maytag valves are configured differently, be sure to order the type specifically designed for your model.
As an alternative to purchasing an anti-siphon valve, you may want to buy an anti-siphon water inlet valve kit. It contains a port for both the hot and cold water, in addition to an anti-siphon mechanism and a wire guide. The kit ranges in price from $32 to 39 at the time of publication. The advantage of purchasing this device is that it combines the water inlet valve -- which controls the flow of hot and cold water into the machine -- and the anti-siphon valve into one seamless piece. However, before purchasing this product, make sure that it fits your washing machine’s configuration.
