How to Purge a Transaxle on a Husqvarna Lawn Tractor

The Husqvarna Group is a Swedish outdoor power equipment manufacturer that markets its chainsaws, trimmers, mowers and lawn tractors to customers in more than 100 countries. In Husqvarna lawn tractors, the transaxle is an integrated assembly that combines the transmission, differential and other related drive components. Purging the transaxle transmission system clears the hydraulics of trapped air. Husqvarna recommends purging the transaxle before the tractor's first use and each time the component is removed or replaced.

Instructions

    • 1

Park the Husqvarna lawn tractor on a level surface while purging the transaxle. Turn the ignition key to the "Off" position and engage the parking brake.

    • 2

Find the freewheel control on the right-hand side of the tractor's rear drawbar. Pull the freewheel control out and down to disengage the transaxle transmission.

    • 3

Sit in the tractor seat and turn the ignition key to the "On" position to start the engine. Locate the throttle control lever to left of the service reminder indicator; gradually move the lever into the "Slow" position. Put the motion control lever, located to the right of the tractor seat, into the "Neutral" position and disengage the brake pedal.

    • 4

Set the motion control lever to the "Full Forward" position and wait for five seconds. Move the lever to "Full Reverse" and pause for another five seconds. Repeat this step three times.

    • 5

Move the motion control lever back to the "Neutral" position. Turn the ignition key to "Off" and engage the parking brake again.

    • 6

Pull the freewheel control up and push it into place to reengage the transaxle transmission.

    • 7

Turn the ignition key to the "On" position to start the engine. Set the throttle control lever to half speed. Keep the motion control lever in the "Neutral" position and slowly disengage the brake pedal.

    • 8

Push the motion control lever forward and allow the tractor to advance approximately 5 feet. Slowly pull the motion control lever to the "Full Reverse" position and allow the tractor to move backward approximately 5 feet. Put the motion control lever back into "Neutral." Repeat this process three times.
