How to Install the Outer Tub in KitchenAid Washer Model KHWS02RMT1

KitchenAid, a division of the Whirlpool Corporation, is a home appliance manufacturer that offers a wide array of laundry solutions. The KitchenAid KHWS02RMT1 is a front-loading machine from the company's Ensemble line. The bearings that keep the washer spinning smoothly are built into the back of the outer tub. When the bearings wear out, you'll have to replace the entire outer tub assembly. You must almost completely disassemble the washer cabinet prior to installing the component.

Instructions

    • 1

Disconnect the washer's power cord from the wall outlet, before beginning any repairs on your washer, to prevent serious injury.

    • 2

Position the outer tub in the washer cabinet. Hook one end of the suspension springs into the slots near the top front edge of the outer tub. Hook the other end of the springs into the slots at the top of the side panels so that the tub is suspended in the center of the cabinet.

    • 3

Screw the tub support braces to the bottom of the outer tub assembly with a Torx head screwdriver. Clamp the drain and tub hoses to the ports on the bottom of the tub.

    • 4

Insert the inner tub into the replacement outer tub by sliding the inner tub shaft through the bearings in the back of the outer tub. Go around to the back of the washer and slide the drive pulley onto the shaft. Place a 15/16-inch hex nut onto the end of the shaft and tighten it with an adjustable wrench.

    • 5

Position the drive motor onto the bottom right-hand side of the outer tub. Insert and tighten the 1/2-inch mounting bolt and Torx head screws. Hook the washer belt onto the drive motor shaft. Pull the belt up and fit it onto the drive pulley.

    • 6

Hold the top rear counterweight against the back of the outer tub assembly then insert and tighten the three 1/2-inch mounting bolts. Use the same process to replace the top and bottom front counterweights.

    • 7

Align the screw holes on the edges of the rear cabinet braces with the screw holes on the edges of the washer cabinet then insert and tighten the screws to secure the braces in place. Hold the rear panel against the back of the washer cabinet and reinstall the 12 mounting screws to hold it in place.

    • 8

Snap the control console onto the front of the washer cabinet. Insert a Torx head screw into the recessed hole located to the left of the detergent drawer housing and tighten it. Plug the ribbon cable connector into the wiring harness on the back of the control console. Slide the detergent drawer back into its housing.

Fit the cover onto the top of the washer cabinet by guiding the retaining tabs at the front of the cover under the edge of the control console. Insert the three Torx head screws into the holes on the back edge of the washer cover. Tighten the screws with the Torx head screwdriver.

    • 10

Stretch the rubber bellows over the front of the washer tub. Slip the retaining clamp over the bellows then tighten the clamp screw to secure the component in place.

    • 11

Line up the edges of the toe panel with the edges of the washer cabinet. Press the panel against the washer and slide it straight down to engage the retaining clips at the bottom of the cabinet. Install the three Torx head screws along the bottom flange. Set the front panel on top of the toe panel and reinstall the corner screws.

    • 12

Hold the door switch assembly to the back of the front panel at the right of the door opening. Replace the three Torx head screws to hold the component in place. Plug the wiring connector into the harness on the back of the door switch assembly.

    • 13

Pull the rubber bellows through the front panel door opening. Fold the bellows back so that it fits securely around the edges of the opening. Stretch the tension spring and fit the retaining wire and tension spring component around the perimeter of the bellows.
