Following a couple of key safety precautions can help you replace the gasket seal on a Dacor oven without injury. Always disconnect the electricity to the oven before servicing it; unplug the range or turn off the corresponding circuit breaker. If you have a Dacor gas range, turn the gas supply valve clockwise several full rotations to close it. Wait until your troubleshooting or repairs are completed before reapplying the electrical and gas supplies.
Before you can you replace the gasket seal you must take the oven door off of your Dacor range. Open the oven door and lower it fully. There is a small locking lever on each of the two door hinges -- pull the levers forward as far as they'll go. Partially close the door so that it's at a 15-degree angle from the front of the range. While the door is in this position, grasp both sides, then lift it up and away from the appliance. Place the removed oven door on a padded surface with the gasket seal facing up.
A series of self-locking tabs secures the gasket seal to the oven door. Separating the old gasket seal from the oven door is as simple as grabbing the gasket and pulling firmly. Installing the replacement gasket seal is just as easy. Line up the self-locking tabs on the replacement gasket with the slots on the oven door; press the tabs into the slots. Once you've inserted the self-locking tabs, tug gently on the new gasket to ensure it's installed properly. Reverse the removal instructions to replace the oven door.
Dacor ranges come with a limited warranty or protection plan that covers the cost of certain repairs for a specified number of years. These types of warranties often prohibit the owner from servicing the appliance themselves. Performing do-it-yourself repairs on your Dacor range, such as replacing the oven door gasket seal, may void the appliance warranty, leaving you responsible for the cost of parts and labor. Consult the terms of your appliance protection plan for more information.
