How to Change the Blower Motor on an Amana GUCA Furnace

Disconnect the power to the furnace before servicing it. Never attempt to repair or replace internal furnace components while the power is applied, as serious injury or death may result.

Open your fuse box or electrical service panel. Remove the appropriate fuse or locate the circuit breaker labeled "Furnace" and switch it to the "Off" position. Close the gas valve to disrupt the gas supply during your repairs.

Remove the blower compartment door. This is the top door on downflow models, the bottom door on upflow models and the right door on horizontal models.

Take out the screws securing the blower compartment door to the furnace cabinet. The type and number of screws may vary by Amana furnace model. Pull the door away from the furnace and set it aside.

Reach around the side of the blower assembly to disengage the latches holding the two cable connectors to the motor wiring harness. Pull on the connectors only; pulling on the cables may damage them.

Take out the two mounting screws at the top of the blower assembly. Pull the blower assembly out of the furnace cabinet and set it on a padded surface with the motor facing up.

Remove the four screws and washers mounting the motor to the blower assembly. Pull out the old motor, and set aside the removed screws and washers for reinstallation.

Lower the replacement motor into the blower assembly. Replace the washers. Reinsert and tighten the four motor mounting screws. Plug the two cable connectors into the motor wiring harness.

Hold the blower compartment door to the front of the furnace. Insert the door screws and tighten them. Restore the electrical and gas supplies.
