Pull the refrigerator out from the wall slightly.
Disconnect the power cord from the power supply. Turn off the water supply to the refrigerator. This is sometimes a small valve you can twist near the wall or, if you have an exposed basement ceiling under your kitchen, under the floor where the main water line branches off to feed the refrigerator.
Pull the refrigerator out far enough so you can get behind it.
Remove the vented cover over the bottom right-hand corner of the refrigerator by twisting off the hex-head screws with a socket wrench in the appropriate size. The cover may be metal or cardboard. Take care not to damage a cardboard cover, and set the cover and the screws aside.
Look for the two plastic tubes that enter the dual water valve at the bottom of the valve, which is just inside the cover at the bottom right of the refrigerator. The valve is light blue plastic with a boxy shape.
Unscrew the hex-headed screw from the metal bracket that holds the dual water valve to the side of the refrigerator. Gently pull the valve toward you.
Push down on the small ring near the bottom of the first tube. This is a compression ring. Pushing down on it releases the tube. Pull the tube out, keeping a rag handy to soak up any water remaining in the tube.
Set the end of the tube in the bowl and repeat Step 7 on the other two tubes before proceeding with your repair.
