The main circuit board is the brain of the dishwasher, controlling all of the aspects of the wash cycle. The dishwasher connects directly to the dishwasher's main control panel with a ribbon connector and processes all user inputs. If the circuit board fails, it must be replaced, as the dishwasher will not function.
The circuit board is located in the dishwasher's control panel. To access the circuit board, first disconnect the power to the dishwasher. With the power disconnected, open the dishwasher door, and remove the screws from the inner door panel securing the control panel to the door. Close the dishwasher door, but do not latch it. Pull the control panel forward to reveal the circuit board.
GE dishwashers have a thermal fuse inline that protects the circuit board from power surges and over-heating. On some models of GE dishwashers, the thermal fuse is clipped to the side of the circuit board housing. If the dishwasher is not properly functioning, check the thermal fuse with a multimeter prior to replacing the circuit board.
The circuit board is an electronic component, and as such can become unresponsive. If the circuit board is frozen or not responding to user inputs, the dishwasher will not function. In this instance, you must reboot the circuit board. To reboot the circuit board, turn off the dishwasher breaker in your service panel and allow it to remain off for at least 30 seconds. Once the 30 seconds has passed, turn on the breaker to complete the reset.
