How to Remove and Replace a Glass Cooktop

A glass cook top is easy to use and to clean, but if you are not careful to keep scratches from forming, the cook top can crack or even shatter. Once your glass cook top is broken, you must replace it rather than continue to use it. Luckily, you do not have to replace the entire oven, just the glass cook top. Once you replace the cook top, follow the manufacturer's instructions regarding daily usage to keep you from having to replace it again.

Instructions

    • 1

Unplug the stove and move it forward from the wall to make it easier to lift the ceramic top.

    • 2

Open the oven door and use a screwdriver to loosen the screws that secure the glass cook top to the oven.

    • 3

Lift the glass cook top away from the oven and place it upside down on a towel or folded cloth. Close the oven door.

    • 4

Unscrew the clips holding the burners to the broken glass cook top and carefully remove the burners.

    • 5

Place the burners into their respective areas and tighten the screws for the clips.

    • 6

Slide the new glass cook top carefully into place and lower the front. Open the oven door so you can reach the holes for the screws that secure the glass cook top.

    • 7

Replace the screws that hold the glass cook top in place and close the oven door. Plug the oven back in and slide it back into place. Test each burner to be sure each one functions properly.
