Turn off the circuit breaker that supplies electricity to the Sears range. Power must be cut off before opening the appliance for repairs.
Pull the range door to the open position and run your fingers along the upper edge to locate the screws holding the frame for the glass top to the front edge of the range.
Remove the screws on the inside of the range below the glass top, using the screwdriver. Save these screws.
Raise the top of the range and hold it up with the metal or wooden rod wedged between the cook top and the frame of the appliance.
Take out the screws holding the metal cover over the element you want to change. The cover holds the heating coil in place beneath the glass.
Pull the round element free from the power socket.
Line up the two prongs on the new element and push into the power socket. The prongs only insert in one direction, so flip the element over if it does not fit.
Reattach the metal cover to the underside of the range top with screws.
Lower the range top and fasten it to the front edge with the screws saved from Step 3.
Shut the range door and turn the circuit breaker switch back on.
