How to Grease Frigidaire Dryers

If you recently turned your Frigidaire dryer on, only to hear an incessant squeaking sound, you need to grease the bearing hitch and support cup that keep the dryer’s drum in place. When it came from the manufacturer, your machine had a small amount of grease placed on the bearing hitch and support cup; over time, however, the grease wears down and dissipates. When this happens, the connector starts to squeak. If not dealt with, the connector will quickly break down, requiring a complete replacement. You can prevent this with a few minutes' effort.

Instructions

    • 1

Unplug the dryer from its electrical outlet. This prevents the possibility of electrical shock.

    • 2

Press a putty knife between the top of the dryer and the front panel in the right corner of the dryer to release the locking tab. Repeat this in the left corner of the dryer. Lift the top up and lean it against the wall.

    • 3

Reach inside the dryer and disconnect the wiring harness that hooks to the back of the door.

    • 4

Locate the mounting screws for the front panel inside the front of the dryer and remove them with a screwdriver. Remove the front panel from the dryer.

    • 5

Remove the screws that secure the rear access panel onto the back of the dryer and place the panel off to the side.

    • 6

Push the idler pulley, visible through the access panel, inward and then pull the belt off the pulley.

    • 7

Locate the white spacer that presses between the cross member at the top of the dryer and the front of the dryer drum. Remove the spacer and place it off to the side.

    • 8

Lift the drum up and off the support cup bolted to the inner back of the dryer housing.

    • 9

Wipe the old grease off the support cup and off the bearing hitch located on the back of the dryer drum.

    • 10

Apply a small amount of bearing packing grease into the support cup and around the hitch.

    • 11

Lift the drum up and seat the bearing hitch into the support cup, then place the plastic spacer between the cross member and the dryer drum.

    • 12

Push in on the idler pulley and place the belt back around the pulley. Mount the access cover back onto the dryer.

    • 13

Reinstall the front panel and then reconnect the wiring harness. Lower the top panel down until the locks snap into place.
