How to Align a Sagging Frigidaire Upright Refrigerator Door

Over time, the process of opening and closing the door on your Frigidaire upright refrigerator can cause the door to sag. A sagging door not only causes damage to the refrigerator itself, it can also cause a gap in the seal created when the doors are closed. This gap, even if very small, can cause cold air to leak out, meaning the fridge has to run more often to keep cool. This wears down the parts and increases your energy costs. Adjusting the door from time to time can prevent problems associated with a sagging door.

Instructions

    • 1

Make sure the refrigerator door is closed tightly.

    • 2

Inspect the top hinge cover of the door you want to adjust, whether the fridge or freezer, and locate the three screws that hold the cover in place.

    • 3

Remove the three screws, using a Phillips screwdriver. Carefully pop the hinge cover off.

    • 4

Loosen the hinge screws about halfway, which may cause the fridge door to sag more initially.

    • 5

Grasp the refrigerator door handle and gently lift the door up or down until it is level and even with the refrigerator frame. Hold it in place or have a helper hold it level in place.

    • 6

Tighten the hinge screws completely. Let go of the fridge handle to see if the door drops again. If it doesn't sag, open and close the door a few times to test the door's stability. If it still sags, repeat Steps 4 and 5 until the door no longer sags.

    • 7

Replace the hinge cover and screws. Repeat these steps on the other door if needed.
