Troubleshooting Guide for ICP Mini Split Systems

ICP split air conditioners (ACs) are called spit systems because they come in two parts. The air handler is generally installed inside the home and the compressor is installed outside the home. These units come with remote controls to operate the system. If you are having problems with your split AC system, there are a few things you can do before you call an technician to fix it.

Check the thermostat on the unit to make sure that the unit is turned “On.” Turn the unit “On” on your remote to get the air flowing inside your home. Make sure there is not a timer that is set on the system. If the timer is set, turn the timer off so the unit runs consistently.

    • 2

Change the batteries inside your remote. If the batteries are dead, the remote will not be able to control the unit. Make sure you do not have anything blocking the remote sensor on the front of the unit. The remote will not work if it is more than 7 yards away from the sensor.

Make sure the operating mode is set to what you want. For instance, if you are trying to cool your room, make sure that the operating mode is set to “Cool.” If you are trying to heat your room, change the operating mode to “Heat.”

Check the back of the unit to make sure it is draining water properly. When the unit is turned on, the evaporator coil will give off water. If the unit is not draining, you might have an undercharged or overcharged unit.

Contact an heating and air conditioning technician to diagnose any other problems you are having with your split system. These technicians must obtain a license from the EPA to handle refrigerant. They will be able to replace the refrigerant inside your unit if needed.
