How to Remove a GE Oven Heater Element

GE electric ovens contain two heater elements, one at the top for broiling and another at the bottom. Each element is permanently attached to a rectangular metal support bracket with two terminals that connect to the back of the appliance. As with any brand of oven, the GE oven's heater element may eventually wear out and stop heating. Remove the part and take it with you to an appliance store or repair shop to find the correct replacement.

Instructions

    • 1

Shut off power to the GE oven either by unplugging the power cord or flipping the circuit breaker switch. Let the appliance cool completely if it has been in operation.

    • 2

Open the door to slide out and remove the two metal racks inside. Now you can reach the back wall of the appliance.

    • 3

Take out the screws in the metal bracket surrounding the element you want to remove, using a screwdriver.

    • 4

Grab the two posts where the element inserts in the back wall and pull straight out to disconnect it. You can now remove the part for testing or take it with you to a store for a replacement.
