How to Install a Broiler Element in a GE Oven

The broiler element inside a GE oven connects to the back wall near the top with two electrical terminals mounted in a stainless steel bracket. Over time the element can wear out and stop working. Rather than pay a repair technician, whose labor will likely cost more than the replacement part, install the broiler element yourself and save money. Follow the safety precautions and you'll be finished in less than an hour.

Instructions

    • 1

Turn off the circuit breaker switch that controls the GE oven. This is easier and faster than moving the stove to reach the power cord in the back. Wait for the oven to cool if you were recently using the appliance.

    • 2

Pull open the GE oven to slide out the cooking racks. Lift each at an angle from the front and remove it.

    • 3

Unscrew the screws holding the top element, which is the broiler, from the back wall of the GE oven. Save these parts

    • 4

Grip the back of the broiler element at the two connection points and pull back to unplug the part.

    • 5

Line up the connection terminals on the new part and push straight into the two sockets for the broiler element. Insert the screws through the holes in the bracket and tighten each to secure the new broiler for the GE oven.

    • 6

Replace the cooking racks and close the GE oven door before switching on the power at the breaker.
