How to Remove Aluminum Scratches

Aluminum is a metal used in a variety of applications, including aeronautics, casing for electronics such as stereos and computers, light posts, wheel rims, and railings like those you'd find on a ship. Aluminum is naturally resistant to corrosion, but this can be enhanced through anodizing, a process that makes it even more resistant to corrosion. One drawback to aluminum is that it is a soft metal, which can make it prone to scratches.

Instructions

    • 1

Rub steel wool carefully over the scratch. Go with the grain, and brush lightly so you don't damage the finish.

    • 2

Wipe off the surface of the aluminum with a clean rag, and examine the scratch. If the scratch is still there, rub the steel wool over it again, applying slightly more pressure than before. Wipe down the surface again.

    • 3

Buff the surface of the aluminum by spraying window cleaner onto a dry rag and wiping the surface where the scratch was.

    • 4

Protect the aluminum surface by covering it with a protective film or case designed to fit over it.
