How to Install the Belt in a Maytag Dryer PYE/G2000

The Maytag PYE/G2000 seven-cycle automatic dryer comes in both gas and electric models. Each model is equipped with a pulley system powered by the motor that controls the belt. The belt wraps tightly around the drum, causing the drum to rotate as the belt turns. In the event that the belt fails or breaks, a new one must be installed in its place to keep the Maytag dryer operating properly.

Instructions

    • 1

Disconnect the Maytag dryer power cord.

    • 2

Insert the putty knife between the top and front panels. Lift the putty knife up at the right and left corners to disengage the two internal clips.

    • 3

Lift the top panel up. Rest the panel on its hinges.

    • 4

Remove the two screws connecting the top of the front panel to the cabinet. Disconnect the door switch connector from its socket. The door switch is a small rectangular device on the left side of the cabinet near the top.

    • 5

Lift the front panel up to disconnect it from the base. Set the panel aside.

    • 6

Move the idler pulley arm forward to relieve the tension on the belt. The idler is the small pulley below the drum that presses against the belt. Slide the belt off of the pulleys. Remove the other end of the belt from the drum.

    • 7

Guide the new belt around the drum. Make sure it seats properly into the belt groove. Loop the other end around the pulleys. Move the idler pulley toward the back of the PYE/G2000 dryer to restore belt tension.

Reverse the dis-assembly steps to put the Maytag dryer back together.
