How to Remove the Handle From a Whirlpool Oven Glass Cooktop

A loose door handle on the Whirlpool oven glass cooktop door is most likely stripped and requires replacement. The handle of the oven door uses screws to secure it to the outer door skin. Removing the handle from a Whirlpool oven glass cooktop door does not require door removal but does involve some disassembly of the door. Although some models might vary, the general process of door handle removal is the same. Order your replacement handle first so you are able to install it once you remove the old handle.

Open the Whirlpool oven door. Find the screws on the inside top corners of the inner door panel that secure the front and rear panels together. Ask a friend to hold the inner and outer door panels together at the top of the door while you remove the screws with the Phillips screwdriver.

Separate the door panels just enough that you are able to see the door handle screws on the inside of the outer panel. Ask you helper to hold the inner door panel down while you remove the door handle.

Remove the two hex head screws that secure the door handle with a 1/4-inch nut driver. Hold the handle as you are removing the screws. Once the screws are away from the handle, remove the handle from the door.

Hold the inner and outer door panels together and secure them with the inner door panel securing screws if you are not replacing the handle right away. This prevents accidental breakage of the oven door glass and also helps ensure the door hinges do not receive any damage.
