Unplug the range from the electrical outlet. The power cord is behind the range. Some ranges have a utility drawer below the oven. Pull the drawer out and reach the power cord from the drawer cavity. If you cannot reach the power cord or the range is hardwired to your home, turn off the circuit breaker to the range.
Put on leather work gloves to protect your hands from broken glass. It is also a good idea to put on a pair of safety glasses to protect your eyes as well. Open the oven door and slide out both of the cooking racks. Set the racks on the counter.
Twist the globe that covers the oven bulb counterclockwise with your hand, and pull it away from the socket. Some ovens use a spring clamp ring to secure the bulb. Squeeze the tabs on the ring to pull the globe away from the socket.
Hold the globe upright with the open end pointed toward the ceiling to prevent broken glass from falling out. Empty the globe over a trash can and set the globe aside.
Break off any remaining glass around the bulb base with needle-nose pliers. Grasp the small edge of the metal from the light bulb base with the pliers. There is just enough of the metal portion of the light bulb sticking above the socket. Bend the metal toward the center of the socket slightly.
Get a firmer grip on the bent metal portion with the needle-nose pliers. Twist the metal portion counterclockwise with the pliers just like you would if the bulb were intact. Continue turning the metal portion until the bulb base is out of the socket.
Pick up the larger pieces of broken bulb glass and place it in the trash. Vacuum the oven and the light socket to remove small pieces of glass.
