The Kenmore Dryer Buzzes But Does Not Run

Certain Kenmore clothes dryer models will buzz after you press and release the “Start” button to signal the start of a drying cycle. Yet if your Kenmore dryer buzzes, but doesn’t run, it may indicate that there’s a problem with your dryer’s electrical wiring. Before you make an appointment to have your dryer’s continuity evaluated, check some things on the dryer for possible malfunction.
  1. Door

    • If the door on your Kenmore dryer isn’t totally closed, you might hear the dryer buzz, but not run. The door must be completely shut for the dryer to heat and tumble. Open and close the door. Verify that no article of clothing is trapped between the door and the cabinet, which may prevent the door from sealing shut. Remove any obstruction that may exist and try starting the dryer again.

    Power Cord

    • Confirm that the dryer’s power cord isn’t damaged. Visible wires or a severely bent cord can interfere with the transfer of electricity from the electrical outlet to the dryer. While the dryer might receive enough power for the controls to light and start button to buzz, the dryer might not receive the electricity needed to run. Change out a bad power cord with a new one.

    Thermal Fuse

    • Kenmore dryers often have a thermal fuse that triggers when the dryer’s temperature approaches overheating. After the fuse blows, you must swap it out for a new one for your dryer to perform normally. Until the fuse is replaced, the dryer might buzz, but may not fully operate a routine drying cycle. For example, it might start but stop early or won’t heat, but may turn. Review the instructions manual provided with your dryer for instructions on detecting and replacing a blown thermal fuse.

    Control Panel

    • A Kenmore dryer’s control panel contains multiple wires that send signals to components directing them to turn on and off. If the control panel’s start button buzzes, although the sound is faint or odd, the wires to the button might not be transferring the right signal to the dryer’s heater and drum to run, and consequently the dryer doesn’t start as usual. Contact Kenmore to make a service appointment. A technician will evaluate the dryer’s connectivity, and either reconnect a loose wire or replace a wire that might have corroded. In certain circumstances, the entire control panel, including the start button, may need to be replaced to reinstate the dryer’s full operation.
