How to Change a Heating Coil on a Frigidaire Glass Top Stove

Frigidaire glass top stoves radiate heat with coiled elements installed beneath the surface. The result is a smooth stove top that's easier to clean. If a heating coil burns out, you can replace the defective part yourself and save on a repair bill. Frigidaire stoves are designed with a detachable surface that you can raise at an angle like the hood of a car. Replace the element while the stove top is in the elevated position.

Things You'll Need

Instructions

    • 1

Disconnect the Frigidaire power cord from the socket or shut off the electricity at the circuit breaker before proceeding.

    • 2

Lower the stove door to the horizontal position to take out the wire racks inside the Frigidaire. Each rack slides out and lifts at an angle for removal.

    • 3

Unscrew and take out the screws along the underside of the Frigidaire at the top edge to release the glass top.

    • 4

Lift the glass top gently toward the back of the Frigidaire and hold it upright with the steel rod between the bottom of the glass surface and the top of the stove.

    • 5

Extract the screws in the metal bowl covering the heating coil that must be changed. Set aside the bowl and place the screws inside for safekeeping.

    • 6

Grip the coil by the two prongs that connect it to the cube-shaped socket and pull the part straight out.

    • 7

Plug in the new heating coil and cover with the metal bowl. Secure the bowl with the screws.

    • 8

Hold the cooking surface in one hand to remove the steel support rod. Lower the glass top gently to the Frigidaire and press to click it in place.

    • 9

Insert and tighten the screws in the underside of the front edge.

    • 10

Slide the wire racks back into the Frigidaire and shut the door.

    • 11

Plug in the stove's power cord or switch on the breaker.
