# The Removal of the Broiler Drawer on a Tappan Range
Unplugging the Tappan gas range or turning off the rear gas valve requires you to remove the bottom drawer. The drawer below the oven door is either a broiler or warming drawer, depending on the model. Both drawers use the same type of locking mechanism, which prevents accidentally pulling the drawer out of the unit. Removing the broiler drawer on a Tappan range allows you to reach under the oven to the back wall, where the power cord and gas control are located.

Check to ensure that all of the Tappan range controls are in the “Off” position, especially the broil control. If you use the broiler recently, allow it to cool for one hour before removing the drawer.

Open the broiler drawer and lift out the broiler pan, if it is inside the drawer. Extend the drawer fully.

Pull the left glide lever up with your finger. The lever is the small handle on the side of the drawer slide. One end of the lever is hidden behind the slide and one end is visible. Lifting the visible end up disengages it from the drawer slide.

Push the right glide lever down with your finger to unhook the right side of the Tappan broiler drawer. Grasp the sides of the broiler drawer and pull it away from the Tappan range.
