Repairing Chipped Enamel on Your Stove

Chipped enamel on the surface of your stove can diminish the appearance of the appliance while encouraging rust formation on the exposed metal underneath. Repair kits containing appliance touch-up paint are available in different colors to fix this problem. Buy the kit at an appliance or hardware store to match your stove color as closely as possible. Write down the stove's brand name to help identify the best color match.

Instructions

    • 1

Clean the damaged area with liquid degreasing detergent and a damp sponge to remove dirt, grease and grime that can prevent the touch-up paint from bonding effectively.

    • 2

Dry the damaged area with paper towels.

    • 3

Shake the bottle of appliance touch-up paint to mix thoroughly.

    • 4

Unscrew the cap on the paint bottle. The thin brush is attached to the underside of the cap.

    • 5

Apply the paint to the chipped area on the stove, covering the bare metal underneath. Let the paint dry completely before applying additional coats that may be necessary to build up the enamel thickness; the number of coats needed can vary depending on the extent of the damage.
