How to Remove a Knob From a Sears Washer

Sears washing machines, including the models sold under the Kenmore brand name, are manufactured by Whirlpool. The washers are designed with cycle control knobs that unscrew for removal. All other knobs on the control panel pull on and off, but the cycle knob is different because of its clockwise movement. Removing either type of knob takes less than a minute, whether you need to clean the control panel or prepare to open it for repairs. No tools are needed.

Instructions

    • 1

Push in the cycle control knob to stop the washer if it is operating.

    • 2

Twist the cycle knob to the left to unscrew and remove the knob. Replace it by screwing on the knob to the right.

    • 3

Pull any other knob on the appliance straight off the metal shaft protruding from the control panel. Line up the back of the knob with the shape of the shaft tip and push on the knob to reattach it to the appliance.
