How to Access the Ignitor on a GGW9878LW0 Dryer

The ignitor in the Whirlpool GGW9878LW0 automatic gas dryer lights the burner system when the dryer is turned on. If the ignitor isn't functioning, it may need to be repaired or replaced. The ignitor can be accessed by removing part of the outer cabinet.

  • Phillips screwdriver

      Unplug the dryer power cord. Turn off the gas supply leading to the dryer.

      Insert the tip of the flat-blade screwdriver into the gap above the toe panel below the upper front panel. Press the screwdriver into the internal clips four inches from each side.

      Pull the toe panel off and set it aside.

      Unplug the wiring harness connectors leading to the burner assembly by hand.

      Remove the screws holding the ignitor to the lower portion of the burner assembly. Lift the ignitor out of the dryer cabinet.
