How to Remove a Hinge on a KitchenAid Range

KitchenAid ranges, which Whirlpool manufactures, have both an oven and a stovetop, allowing you to prepare a wide variety of food. The oven door has a spring-loaded hinge, which allows you to open and close the door with ease. However, as the range ages, the door hinge or hinges may begin to fail, making it difficult to open and close the door. When this occurs, replacing the hinges is the best way to restore the ease of use of your oven. Prior to installing the new hinges, you must first remove the old hinges, which requires you to remove the oven door from the range.

Instructions

    • 1

Disconnect the range's power supply, either by unplugging the power cord from the wall outlet or turning off the oven breaker in your home's main service panel.

    • 2

Move the hinge locks away from the oven door jamb, toward the door. The hinge locks are located on the door hinges, and when locked, are flush against the door jamb.

    • 3

Close the oven door as far as it will shut.

    • 4

Grasp the oven door by its sides with both hands. Apply inward pressure toward the top of the door and outward pressure toward the bottom of the door until it releases from the jamb. Place the door facedown on a sturdy surface.

    • 5

Remove the screws that secure the door handle from the top of the inner door panel.

    • 6

Remove the screws around the perimeter and on the bottom of the door. The exact number and location of screws varies from model to model.

    • 7

Lift the inner door panel out of the outer door panel.

    • 8

Remove the screw or screws on the top or side of the inner door panel, securing each door hinge to the door.

    • 9

Lift the inner door panel, then remove the door hinges from the underside of the panel.
