How to Repair an AR VRT Unloader

A.R. North American Inc. supplies plunger pumps and accessories for pressure washers. Some of the items offered are motor pumps, high pressure component accessories and unloader valves. If the unloader on your pressure washer is malfunctioning, you’ll need to do some investigating to determine whether you simply need to switch out the unloader valve or something else is wrong with the washer.

Instructions

    • 1

Verify that the unloader is properly adjusted and that the bypass seat is not leaking. If the seat leaks, replace the unloader valve.

    • 2

See that you have the correct nozzle for your pressure washer. It should accommodate the pressure and flow of the pump. If you have the wrong nozzle or it shows a lot of wear, replace it.

    • 3

Look for a restricted intake. If water pressure is restricted, air may be trapped inside the pump. Disconnect the discharge hose from the pump. Flood the suction hose, restart the pump and allow the pump to run until all the air is out.

Reset the unloader valve to a new pressure level if the unloader valve leaks. The valve is likely set on an incorrect setting and may cause overpressure.
