How to Get Scratches Off an Enamel Gas Cooktop

Some GE cooktops are coated with an enamel-based paint for a smooth finish that's relatively easy to clean and protects the underlying metal from rust. Dropping an object like a knife on the cooktop may scratch or chip the enamel, leaving an ugly mark. Repair kits with enamel paint formulated for appliances are available at hardware stores in assorted colors. Match a repair kit to the color of your GE cooktop and apply it to get rid of the scratches.

Instructions

    • 1

Spray degreasing cleaner on the cooktop area to be repaired. Wipe off all traces of grease and grime with paper towels.

    • 2

Wipe the area again with paper towels dampened in water to remove any residual cleaner. Let the area air dry.

    • 3

Shake the bottle of touch-up paint to mix. The applicator brush is attached to the bottom of the bottle cap.

    • 4

Paint in the direction of the scratches on the GE cooktop, not across the scratch or side-to-side. This helps the touch-up enamel blend in with the surrounding cooktop surface. Let the paint dry completely before using the appliance.
