How to Get Protective Plastic Out of Cracks on an Appliance

New appliances often come with a protective film over the cabinet surfaces and the control panel to reduce the risk of scratching. Because the film is applied with a low heat source for a tight fit, some of the material may be stuck in the cracks and crevices of the appliance, where components fit together. Although this does not affect operation of the appliance, bits of colored film may be unsightly.

Instructions

    • 1

Pick out and discard small pieces of plastic film from the appliance cracks using tweezers.

    • 2

Direct a hair dryer on the highest heat setting over hard-to-reach bits of protective film. The hair dryer melts the film so it no longer protrudes from the appliance.

    • 3

Dampen a folded paper towel with nail polish remover to wipe away any residue from the protective plastic film. Test a small, unobtrusive area on the appliance first to be sure the nail-polish remover does not mar the finish.

    • 4

Wipe the surface with clean, dry paper towels.
