How to Repair a Control Board on a GE Oven

The control board on your General Electric oven is located inside the control panel housing, and controls all of the oven's functions. The control board also houses the oven display, as well as the buttons used by the user to input commands into the oven. If the control board fails, the oven will not properly function or it may not function at all. Often, when a control board fails, the error code "F0," "F1," "FF" or "FFF" is shown on the display, indicating that the board must be replaced. It is recommended that the control board be replaced rather than repaired.

Instructions

    • 1

Move the range away from the wall, and unplug the power cord from the wall outlet. If the range is direct-wired to your home's electrical system, turn off the breaker in your home's service panel, rather than unplugging the unit from the wall.

    • 2

Remove the screws around the perimeter of the upper-rear panel of the oven.

    • 3

Pull the upper-rear panel off of the rear of the oven and set it aside.

    • 4

Remove the screws securing the oven control board to the control panel housing, and pull it away from the housing.

    • 5

Pull the control panel button overlay off of the front of the old oven control board, and affix it to the new oven control board.

    • 6

Secure the new oven control board to the interior of the control board housing using the mounting screws that were removed from the old module.

    • 7

Remove the wire connectors, one at a time, from the old control board, and connect them to the new control board.

    • 8

Replace the rear panel of the range, and reinstall the screws that hold it to the cabinet.

    • 9

Restore power to the range, and move the range back against the wall.
