How to Wire a Pressure Control Using a Moto Rand Capacitor

Pressure control, or pressure switches, are switches found on water pumps for individual home water well systems. The pressure control monitors the system's water pressure and activates the pump when pressure is needed. The pressure control is activated and run by a run capacitor, which is a motor capacitor. The Rand Moto capacitor is a brand of motor capacitor. If the pressure control on the water pump goes out, it can be replaced with a Moto Rand run capacitor.

Instructions

    • 1

Shut off power to the water pump at the breaker box.

    • 2

Remove the screw holding the pump cover in place with a screwdriver and set the pump's cover aside.

    • 3

Locate the old capacitor at the base of the water pump and then lay the tip of the screwdriver across its terminals to release capacitor charge if there is any.

    • 4

Remove the capacitor terminals with the screwdriver and take the old capacitor out. Place the Moto Rand capacitor in and then connect the wires to the corresponding capacitor terminals.

    • 5

Set the cover back on and replace the retaining screw.

    • 6

Restore power to the water pump.
