How to Create Voltage for an Offset Thermistor

Thermistors are used in different appliances such as air conditioners and contain wires attached to metals that will react to the change in a temperature. If you are getting offset voltage on your thermistor, you probably have loose wires or a defective thermistor. Once the wires are reattached, the circuit will be complete and the voltage will be able to reach your thermistor. You don’t have to be an electrician to perform this task. You can do it yourself with little hassle.

Instructions

    • 1

Remove the thermistor from your home appliance. This will vary depending on the kind of home appliance you are having problems with.

    • 2

Use a screwdriver to remove the screws holding the wires to your thermistor. If the thermistor has wire plugs, pull the plugs gently to release the thermistor.

    • 3

Use an ohmmeter to check the resistance across the two terminals on the thermistor. If you get the “infinite” symbol, replace the thermistor.

    • 4

Reconnect the thermistor to the wires, making sure that the wires are secured. Use your ohmmeter to make sure that the voltage reading is coming through the thermistor.

    • 5

Put the thermistor back into the appliance.
