How to Replace a Belt on a Frigidare Dryer

Frigidaire automatic gas and electric dryers are manufactured by the Electrolux company. Each model has a distinct set of features and cycle options. Every model is equipped with a drive belt that connects the motor pulley system to the tumbler drum. A broken or defective belt prevents the drum from rotating properly when the dryer is running. Replace the belt with a new one to keep the Frigidaire dryer working effectively.

Instructions

    • 1

Disconnect the power cord before working on the Frigidaire dryer.

    • 2

Slide the putty knife blade into the gap between the top panel and front panel. Lift the putty knife blade up to disconnect the internal panel clips.

    • 3

Lift the top panel up. Rest the panel on the wall behind the Frigidaire dryer.

    • 4

Remove the screws holding the front panel in place. Lift the panel straight up to disconnect it from the dryer cabinet.

    • 5

Unplug the wire harness connecting the door switch. Set the front panel aside.

    • 6

Remove the screws connected to the inspection plate on the left side of the dryer cabinet below the drum. Lift the inspection plate out of the dryer cabinet.

    • 7

Move the idler pulley to the right to relieve belt tension. Slide the belt from the pulleys and drum.

    • 8

Position the new belt around the pulleys with the belt going under the pulley on the left and over the pulley on the right. Loop the belt along the belt groove of the drum. Move the idler pulley to the left to restore tension to the belt. Reverse the disassembly procedure to put the Frigidaire dryer back together.
