How to Get Plastic Out of Cracks on an Appliance

Many new appliances, particularly large units such as washing machines and dryers, ship from the factory with a protective layer of plastic over the cabinet and control panel. The thin plastic film protects the new appliance from scratching and accumulating dust. One disasdvantage of plastic film is that, when removed, small pieces may cling to the cracks and crevices on the appliance where the cabinet parts connect, such as corner edges. Use one of several techniques to remove the plastic from the cracks.

Things You'll Need

  • Tweezers
  • Electric hair dryer
  • Acetone, such as unscented nail polish remover
  • Paper towels
  • Old cloth towel

Instructions

    • 1

Grab tiny pieces of plastic film sticking out of the cracks with tweezers. Pull gently to avoid tearing the film into even smaller pieces, which will increase the amount of work.

    • 2

Blow the hair dryer at the high heat setting on the remaining plastic, which will melt.

    • 3

Swab the appliance surface with a paper towel dipped in acetone to dissolve residual plastic from the cabinet cracks.

    • 4

Dry the surface of the appliance with an old towel.
