Help With Removing Enamel From the Electrical Elements on a Stove

Enamel on a stove's electrical elements is usually the result of two types of accidents: Either enamel appliance touch-up paint was spilled while repairing a scratch on the stove or wall paint splattered during a kitchen repainting project. Regardless of how it got on the element, the enamel is going to smell when a stove burner is turned on. Removing the enamel safely will save the expense of replacing an electrical element.

Instructions

    • 1

Turn off the stove burners and shut off the electricity to the appliance at the household circuit breaker. Wait for the elements to cool if the stove has just been used.

    • 2

Lift the enamel-stained element at a 45-degree angle and unplug the component from its socket.

    • 3

Place the element on some folded paper towels.

    • 4

Wipe the stained area with a paper towel dipped in acetone to loosen, dissolve and remove the enamel. Use a cotton swab dipped in acetone to reach the enamel in between the circular element coils.

    • 5

Wipe the element with a paper towel dampened with water and let it air-dry completely.

    • 6

Plug in the element and switch on the circuit breaker to restore power to the stove.
