How to Replace a Kenmore Electric Stove Top

If the glass is broken or damaged on your Kenmore electric range's stovetop, you must remove it and install a new stovetop prior to resuming use of the range. Below the stovetop are several burners attached to cross braces, which bind the burners to the underside of the glass. Once you gain access to the underside of the stovetop, you must remove the cross braces from the glass, at which point the top can be removed.

Instructions

    • 1

Locate the range breaker in your home's service panel. Turn off the breaker to cut power to the range.

    • 2

Open the oven door, and then remove the screws from the underside of the front of the stovetop.

    • 3

Close the oven door, and then lift up the stovetop. Support the stovetop using a sturdy dowel rod, similar to the manner in which a car's hood is propped up.

    • 4

Remove the screws securing the cross braces to the underside of the stovetop, and then remove the cross braces.

    • 5

Lift the stovetop and and off of the range. Place the stove top upside down on a sturdy surface.

    • 6

Remove the screws securing the metal brackets to the front and rear of the stovetop, and then transfer them to the underside of the new stovetop, if applicable to your model.

    • 7

Place the new stovetop on the range, and secure it using the dowel rod.

    • 8

Reinstall the cross braces, using the screws that were removed to secure them to the underside of the new stovetop.

    • 9

Lower the stovetop, and secure it to the cabinet using the screws that were removed.

    • 10

Restore the range's power supply by turning on the breaker in your home's service panel.
