Unplug a free-standing GE range from the wall outlet located behind the range. Turn off the breaker inside the main breaker box that supplies electricity to a wall oven or a hard-wired range. If your range power cord connects inside the wall and does not plug into a receptacle, it is considered “hard-wired.”
Open your GE oven door and remove the wire baking racks. Doing this gives you room to access the connections on the top burner or broiler element.
Follow the top burner element to where it attaches to the back wall of the oven with a metal bracket. Remove the two screws that hold the bracket to the back wall of the oven.
Snap off the top burner from the brackets attached to the top of the oven. Depending on your GE oven model, you may need to remove the screws that hold the bracket to the top of the oven to release the top burner.
Pull the top burner off of the back wall of the oven to expose the wiring. Pull the wires from each end of the burner. The burner has spade terminals attached to the ends. The ends of the wires have disconnects that slip onto the terminals. Simply pull the disconnects and terminals apart to remove the top burner from the oven.
